The process of producing bacan Guaro gave them insights into the needs of youth who live, and often work, in marginalized agricultural communities in Colombia. bacan’s success and loyal clientele make this project possible by reserving a portion of earnings for these youths’ education. bacan Academy scholarships are their way of giving back, starting with Diana’s birthplace, Tolima, Colombia, to empower youth and foster sustainable development through intentional and guided support.

One of the root causes of absenteeism among Colombian youth lies in the educational disparities. Shocking statistics from Tolima in 2019 revealed that over 60% of the total population involved in the agricultural industry had only accessed primary education, while just about 8% reached secondary education. This lack of access to education perpetuates a cycle of poverty and limits opportunities for young people.
